The backbone of the SPAN organization is the volunteers; they are the heart of SPAN. They interview our clients and provide assistance, pick up donated food in the community, stock our pantry shelves, assist with special programs, and serve on various SPAN committees including the Board of Directors. SPAN volunteers are women and men of all ages and backgrounds, who bring with them various strengths and talents. Some are new to SPAN and some have been volunteering for 30 years! One thing they all have in common is they are compassionate, caring individuals with a genuine concern for SPAN clients, despite sometimes overwhelming challenges.

We have many opportunities to volunteer for SPAN, including Interviewers (work directly with the clients), Pantry Workers (they keep our food pantry organized) and Board of Directors (Represent our Church Partners). To volunteer in one of these capacities, you must be at least 18 years old. If your school group, scout troop, youth group, or you as an individual are under 18 and would like to know how to help SPAN, we have many interesting projects. Please email us at [email protected] and ask for our list of youth volunteer opportunities. We are happy to sign off on service hours for schools, clubs or teams.

In Memoriam

The volunteers at SPAN are truly a blessing. It is our desire to acknowledge all of them, since they are such a vital part of what we do everyday. In particular, we want to honor and remember those who have passed away in the past year or two. Unfortunately, we are not able to list everyone who has served at SPAN, but we have been alerted to the passing of a few volunteers who were deeply committed to the mission of the organization. The following volunteers and friends of SPAN are greatly missed:

Robert Kelter 12/5/1941-6/1/2022 ~ He volunteered for SPAN for 14 years!

Diane Henry 9/8/1946-11/28/2021 ~ She volunteered for SPAN for many years.

Glen Tisdale 7/4/1924-2/27/2021 ~ His wife Pat volunteered for SPAN.

Barbara Larkin 11/11/1927-1/2/2021 ~ A longtime volunteer for SPAN.
